Years of educational research clearly indicate a strong relationship between school attendance and academic achievement. Every effort is made to teach students the value of excellent school attendance in preparation for entry into the work place and/or further education. Parents need to assure that their child is in school every day and on time. Poor attendance may also affect a student’s ability to obtain a Georgia learners permit or drivers license. For more information go to www.dds.ga.gov/teens/index.aspx under New Driver and Parent Information.
Tardiness
In an effort to provide reading and math support for our students, homeroom is scheduled from 8:00-8:15. We begin providing instruction as needed each day at 8:15 with ELT (extended learning time). All students should arrive to school prior to the 8:15 bell. Students who arrive after 8:15 are considered tardy to their ELT class and should receive a tardy slip.
If the tardiness is due to a medical appointment (dentist, orthodontist, doctor visit, etc.) he/she must present a note from the medical office indicating the reason for the tardy in order for it to be excused.
Early Dismissals
Students who leave school early can only be checked out by the parent or guardian or someone on the emergency consent card. The person signing the student out must come inside the building to sign the student out and present proper identification. There are no early checkouts after 3:00 p.m. When students are dismissed early they are missing class time. Therefore, as with all absences – upon returning to school students must bring documentation stating the date and reason for the absence with a signature of a parent/guardian, doctor, dentist, judge, etc.
